Our Mission
MURDOCK’S TAEKWONDO USA
MISSION STATEMENT: Our goal at Murdock’s Taekwondo USA is to provide a fun and loving family filled atmosphere where children, teens and adults can learn and practice the true essence of Taekwondo which is Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control and Indomitable Spirit. We strive to teach the importance of goal setting and assist each member in setting goals. Through our belt ranking system each student learn to set short term goals. We celebrate their personal victory of reaching their goal with each new belt. Our motto is: “POSITIVE SELF-ESTEEM IS PRICELESS”.
HISTORY: The word Taekwondo itself is made up of three Chinese/Korean words: Tae, meaning to kick or jump; Kwon, meaning fist or hand; and Do, which means “the way.” Loosely (if not literally), it can be thought of as “The Way of the Hand and Foot.” Taekwondo is not only a combat sport, but is also a way of life for enthusiasts around the globe. In the 1960’s Taekwondo began to spread internationally and evolved throughout the late 1900’s (along with most martial arts) into primarily a combat sport, although self-defense, fitness, and the philosophy of the practice (including self-discipline and self-knowledge) are still crucial elements of Songahm Taekwondo, the style of Taekwondo developed and supported by the ATA. Like any martial art properly taught and properly practiced, Taekwondo is a non-aggressive and ethical system of self-defense. Songahm Taekwondo focuses on personal development of the mind and body. To say it is just self-defense would be to lose most of the valuable ideas and philosophy behind this ancient art.
BENEFITS: 1- PHYSICAL FITNESS, SELF-DISCIPLINE, SELF-CONFIDENCE, SELF-DEFENSE and many SOCIAL BENEFITS through training with others. Taekwondo has been proven to increase flexibility, improve cardiovascular functions, strengthen and tone all major muscle groups. The Mental Benefits include but is not limited to increased self-confidence, stress reduction, mental discipline, self-control and peace of mind.
PROGRAMS/CLASSES: We offer special classes for youth ages 4-6 known as our Tiny Tiger Program. These classes meet three times per week and are limited to 20 to 30 minutes each session.
Our K4K or Karate for Kids program is for ages 7 to 13 depending upon the individual and their needs for self development. Each student is only compared to themselves and not others.
Our adult program is based upon self development and self improvement in all areas of their lives. A healthy mind and body is a key ingredient for success in anything.
